Rare Copy Of Super Mario Bros Sold Off At Auction For US$114000

Super Mario Bros has often been described as one of the best video games ever made; it’s even been credited as one of the games that helped revive the video game industry right after the video game crash of 1983. On a somewhat related note, an exceedingly rare and neatly sealed copy of the game was recently sold off for a handsome sum during an auction.

The copy of the Super Mario Bros in question is carries a WATA rating of 9.4, along with an A+ rating for its seal. What makes this copy so sought after is the cardboard hangtab that is built into the back of the box. A feature used by Nintendo when it first started selling its games in the US. As for the price paid, the copy was sold for a whopping US$114000 (~RM486287). The highest ever paid for a single video game on record.

Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time a piece of gaming history has been sold for an exorbitant amount of money. Earlier in February, a rare prototype of a Nintendo PlayStation had gone up for auction for approximately a month. Before it was ultimately sold for US$360000 (~RM1.53 million) to a Greg McLemore.
