LEGO Nintendo NES set leaks – but may cost more than the actual console
Ooh, LEGO! You sure now how to tap into our insatiable lust for childhood nostalgia, don’t you? As if all of those Star Wars, Batman, Marvel, Ghostbusters and Back to the Future sets weren’t enough to bankrupt us and consume our free time, the esteemed Danish bricklayers are reportedly at it again.
According to multiple reports, and since teased by LEGO, the company is planning to launch a Nintendo Entertainment System set, complete with controllers, a game cartridge and an old CRT television with Super Mario Bros. playing on the screen.
The word comes via Chinese site VJGamer which says the whopping 2,646-piece set is on the way. VJGamer also has some purported images of the officially-licensed set, which you can see in the tweet below. The pièce de résistance might be the crank at the back of the telly that moves a Yoshi-mounted Mario in various directions around the display. Neat.
A German website called Stone Wars since followed up with a report citing a 229,99€ price tag, which comes out at a little over £205. That’s no small chunk of change, but then these sets are rarely cheap. The site also claims the set is scheduled to be released on August 1, just a couple of weeks from now.

Then, to add even more intrigue, LEGO itself outed a pretty blatant video teaser in a tweet so it does seem as if this is happening. All things considered, it looks like a real-life version of Super Mario Maker and we’re actually a little giddy.
LEGO has already confirmed a bunch of Super Mario Bros. themed sets are on the way, so it’ll be interesting if the rumoured NES console will arrive alongside them. That range is available to pre-order now with the release coming on August 1, which is the same date as rumoured for today’s NES set.
