Google Adds Nearby Share File-Sharing Support To Chrome OS

Google recently made its Nearby Share file-sharing feature available on its Chrome OS. The feature was first made available as a beta on Google Play Services last month and is intended to be a direct competitor to Apple’s AirDrop.

According to XDA, Nearby Share should already be working on Chromebooks that run the latest OS versions, but to gain access to it, you’ll need to enable a few flags. Specifically, you’ll need to activate the “Nearby Share” flag, followed by the “Share Sheet” flag. Once ticked off, the feature should pop up in the “Connected devices” section within the Settings.

XDA also points out that the feature isn’t quite as optimised at the moment, but for the most part, the app does work as intended. Providing Android users with the ability to share and transfer files between Chromebooks and other platforms via browser.

Naturally, Google’s Nearby Share is also available on Android, but to gain access, you’re going to need to sign up as a beta test for Google Play Services.
