Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Can Survive 2-Metre Drops

Corning has announced the successor to the Gorilla Glass 6, called Victus. And with this new version, the company says it will not only allow your phones to survive drops from greater altitudes, its scratch resistance has also been meaningfully improved.

It its own tests, the company shows mock devices with its Gorilla Glass Victus surviving drops from 2 metres. Which is pretty impressive, considering the Gorilla Glass 6 was only tested with repeated drops from 1 metre above ground. On a related note, phones using the Victus glass will finally be able to survive falls from head height. Probably an underappreciated fact unless you drop your phones during calls a lot.

And then there’s the improved scratch resistance. Corning says that the scratch resistance on the Gorilla Glass Victus is twice as good as it was on the Gorilla Glass 6. The company also claims that this makes the Victus four times more scratch resistant than the competition.

The company says that Samsung phones will be the first to feature the Gorilla Glass Victus. No details on which model exactly, but the company says the Korean tech giant will be adopting the glass on its phones “in the near future”.
