Upcoming Honor Play 4 Features An IR Temperature Sensor

The upcoming Honor Play 4 smartphone is revealed to feature an infrared (IR) temperature sensor on its back, according to an official video uploaded by the brand on Weibo. The smartphone itself is slated to launch in China tomorrow on 3 June 2020.

While environmental thermometer functionality has been around since the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Honor Play 4 is one of the first to include a module that is dedicated to scan a person’s body temperature. It goes without saying that this innovation is influenced by concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. With this, users will have immediate access to a temperature sensor when required, via the convenience of their own smartphones.

You can check out the smartphone’s feature in action through the aforementioned video in the player below, which has been uploaded to Youtube by user MasterPC Plus. As seen in the video, the Play 4 is able to scan a subject’s temperature – be it a person or an inanimate object – by placing the rear sensor close to it. To further demonstrate that the sensor works as intended, the feature is also tested on subjects that vary in temperature such as ice cream and animals.

More details of the new Honor Play 4 such as its specifications, availability and pricing will likely be revealed tomorrow during its launch. It is not certain if the phone will see a launch in Malaysia at this time.
