New Star Wars: Squadrons Trailer Shows Off Starfighters In Action

Earlier this week, EA released the trailer of the upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons dogfighter title. Today, the studio cum publisher has released a new in-game trailer that explains how the 5v5 team battle works, along with its different game modes as well.

To answer one burning question: yes, there is a single-player mode within the game. To be precise, players get to choose between playing as either an Imperial or New Republic pilot. Each pilot having their own storyline.

Of course, the main course of Squadrons is obviously its multiplayer mode and the ships you get to pilot. In total, there are four starfighter types on each factions to choose from, bringing the total number of fighters up to eight. These fighter types are the fighter, interceptor, support, and bomber. For the New Republic, that’s the X-Wing, A-Wing, U-Wing, and Y-Wing, while the Imperial Empire gets the TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, and TIE Reaper.

Multiplayer mode is also divided into two: Dogfight mode and Fleet Battles, the latter being what the trailer describes as Squadrons’ “signature” mode. Basically, the game mode is a multistage mission, requiring each five-man squadron on either faction to engage in a dogfight at the centre of the map. Before moving on to attack or defend capital ships, before ultimately setting their eyes of the grand prize: taking out either an Imperial Star Destroyer or Mon Calamari Cruiser flagship.

Star Wars: Squadron will be arriving on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on 2 October, at a price of US$39.99 (~RM171). The game will support cross-platform play, as well as the option to play the entire game in VR mode for the PC and PS4.
