Leaked NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Score Indicates Significant Performance Bump Over RTX 2080 Ti

A new leak pertaining to NVIDIA’s unreleased GeForce RTX 3090 has made its way online, yet again. The leak supposedly comes from the UL 3DMark benchmark database, and hints at the card having a significant performance lead over the parent brand’s current RTX 2080 Ti.

Specifically, the leak seems to be limited to the graphics performance portion of 3DMark’s Time Spy test. To which the RTX 3090 gained a score of 18257 points. By comparison, that number suggests that card is approximately 30% more efficient than an RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition, while its performance gains over a TITAN RTX is approximately 22%. That said, the card is said to be about 2% less powerful than EVGA’s souped-up RTX 2080 Ti XC, although to be fair, it is a custom-cooled card running at higher than average speeds.

Speaking of clockspeeds, the benchmark also lists the alleged RTX 3090’s GPU boost clock and memory speed at 1935MHz and 6000MHz, respectively. While those numbers are still higher than the clock speeds of an RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition, it is mildly surprising that they aren’t higher. Given that the card is expected to be based on NVIDIA’s upcoming 7nm Ampere GPU architecture.

As a quick recap, initial reports suggest that NVIDIA intends to launch three Ampere-based graphics cards, with the RTX 3090 expected to be the top-of-the-line option for the three. On top of that, all three cards will supposedly be based on a GA102 GPU.

In any case, this is all just hearsay for now, and NVIDIA has yet to release any official statement about the product, unsurprisingly. Of course, given that the cards are expected to enter mass production by August this year, it’s likely we may not have to wait too long for such an announcement. That said, take this news with a large grain of salt.
