Close-Up Zoom Feature Added To Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra In Latest Update

As previously reported last month, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra users in South Korea and other regions had received a new firmware update that added improvements and a new feature to its camera software. The update has finally arrived to Malaysian users on 13 June 2020.

Based on its patch notes, the latest update includes improved camera performance, bug fixes, stability tweaks, and the latest security patch for the Android 10 OS. As mentioned earlier, as part of the camera software improvements is a new Close-Up Zoom feature that enables users to manually switch camera lenses when capturing subjects at close distances.

Rather than being an independent mode on its own, the option to switch to Close-Up Zoom will pop up when the software detects that the user is attempting to shoot objects within close proximity to the camera. When activated, the camera will automatically switch lenses and will notify the user if a subject is too close for it to focus. Users will also need to exit the mode manually once they are done.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s camera does exhibit some improvements to its autofocus capability, but it is still far from perfect. Focusing is now zippy when switching between close and far subjects, but there are times where it will still “pulse” continuously when struggling to find a focus point.

The new firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is available now for users to download. Those who have not received the update notification can check its availability via the Software Update section in Settings.
