SK Telecom And Samsung Unveil The Galaxy A Quantum 5G Smartphone

SK Telecom and Samsung recently pulled back the curtains on the Galaxy A Quantum 5G smartphone. The phone, which was also developed in collaboration with ID Quantique, is supposedly the world’s first 5G smartphone that also houses a quantum random number generator (QRNG).

Apparently, the Galaxy A Quantum 5G was developed with the everyday consumer in mind, albeit with highly advanced quantum security technologies. Breaking it down, phone houses the world’s smallest QRNG chipset, measuring in at 2.5mm by 2.5mm.

On top of that, the phone is also integrated with enhanced quantum cryptography. the cryptography is applied on the Galaxy A Quantum 5G through an advanced two-factor authentication (2FA). In this instance, that 2FA can be applied to authentication-based payments such as SK Telecom’s SK Pay and a blockchain-based service known as Initial.

On that note, the quantum security service is only available to SK Telecom users and only via the Galaxy A Quantum 5G, obviously. Moreover, consumers who purchase the phone when it becomes available will be required to go through the earlier mentioned 2FA whenever they log in to their T-IDs.

At the time of writing, Samsung did not say when or if the Galaxy A Quantum 5G will reach our shores. Given both the complexity and infancy of SK Telecom’s QRNG technology though, it’s possible that the technology will only see circulation within South Korea.
