MediaTek Unveils Helio G85 Gaming Chipset With 1GHz GPU

MediaTek recently unveiled its new Helio G85 SoC. The chipset is the latest addition to the brand’s Helio G series lineup and joins the currently existing Helio G90 and G90T chipsets.

Specs-wise, the Helio G85 is an octa-core processor comprising two ARM Cortex-A75 chips running at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 chips that chug along at a clock speed of 1.8GHz. In addition, the processor is also equipped with ARM Mali-G52 GPU running at 1GHZ that’s coupled with MediaTek’s HyperEngine. Allowing the Helio G85 to achieve a maximum frame rate of 25 fps on the Manhattan benchmark.

Other MediaTek-centric features include support for AI Camera-driven tasks, including Google Lens, scene detection, and even bokeh shot enhancements, among others. In addition, the Helio G85 will also come with multi-camera support, allowing it to support a concoction of wide-angle, telescopic and macro imaging sensors. Up to 48MP in size.

MediaTek is also boasting Integrated Voice Wakeup (WoW) and a “Highly Accurate Inertial Navigation” technology, the latter essentially being a description for better GPS technology.

At the time of writing, MediaTek did not specify when the Helio G85 will see deployment. Given its position in the Helio G Series chipset family, it’s very likely that we could see it in mid-range devices expected to ship out later this year or early 2021.
