Assassin’s Creed Valhalla trailer – Watch the debut trailer right here

Ubisoft has released the debut cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and it looks absolutely lovely, aside from all the murder anyway. It follows a group of Vikings as they venture to the shores of England to do battle with what appears to be a royal army, hinting that some of the game will take place in the UK alongside other areas throughout Europe. You can watch it for yourself below:

The developers have also released a more extensive version of trailer which includes in-depth commentary from the creators. If you fancy learning a little more about the setting, characters and game in general, this is worth checking out:

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay – How could it play?

Those who loved Origins and Odyssey will feel right at home with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, although Ubisoft has made some innovative changes and brave expansions to the formula to ensure it stands out. You play as Elvor, a young assassin who hails from a small Viking settlement in the snowy plains of Norway. Once again, you can select from male and female character options, with this choice likely influencing the unfolding narrative.

Progression will focus on the character themselves alongside a growing Viking settlement which you will manage and grow throughout the campaign. It will become larger, more ambitious and more personal as you return to it again and again. Romantic relationships are also confirmed to return, so perhaps you’ll even have your own family waiting back at home? We hope so since these bonds last time were little more than lewd flings.

Confirmed regions include Great Britain, Scandinavia and Norway. All of these will be fully explorable, with boats once again acting as your primary source of transportation as you hop between islands taking on missions and hunting for treasures. Odyssey and Origins were arguably too big for their own good, and it seems Valhalla will follow in similar footsteps.

Gear is fully customisable (yes, even the beards) so you can expect a vast array of armour, weapons and cool pieces of clothing to don during your Viking conquests. Past games were excellent when it came to loot, dividing things by rarity and ensuring weapon and armour quest rewards made you feel incredibly badass. With any luck, Valhalla will only expand upon these systems and create something even better.

How combat will operate remains unclear, although we imagine it will simply be a deeper version of what we’ve seen before. The level system will determine which areas and missions you can access, with loud and quiet approaches possible regardless of the circumstances. The trailer places an awfully heavy focus on dismemberment, so perhaps Valhalla will be a more violent, visceral affair than we’re used to.

You’ll once again have an Eagle companion who can be called upon to scout out enemy bases in search of loot and adversaries, giving you plenty of time to plan your approach before diving in and murdering everybody. Social aspects such as dialogue options are likely to return too, especially given the fact you’ll have your own settlement waiting in Norway. We’d love to embark on distinct quests to build relationships with certain characters, giving the story some real personal stakes.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla setting – Where does it take place?

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will seemingly take place during the Viking Age (793 – 1066AD) and will follow the player as they venture to a number of different regions across Europe.

Confirmed regions include Great Britain, Norway and Scandinavia. Ubisoft seems keen to explore the barbarian reputation of Vikings from a different perspective, showcasing that their infamous conquests had a purpose beyond needless bloodshed.
