WhatsApp Group Calls With Eight Participants Now Live

WhatsApp was previously testing group video calls involving up to eight people. The feature was live on the beta version of the messaging app for a short while. Now, it looks like the feature has officially gone live. You can also make group voice calls too, also with up to eight people in one.

The announcement was made via a WhatsApp blog post. The Facebook subsidiary says that it has built group calling in a way that works even in slow network connections and on lower end devices. But the messaging app did not elaborate further on what was done to make that happen.

Over the last month, WhatsApp also notes that its users are spending over 15 billion  minutes talking each day via the app. The company also reminds its users that, like its text messages, voice and video calls are also end-top-end encrypted.

To access group voice and video calls for up to eight people, all you need to do is to update WhatsApp to the latest version. This applies to both Android and iOS version of the app. That being said, at the time of writing, the update hasn’t gone live for us just yet. But with the announcement out, it won’t take too long before your device gets it.
