Next-Generation Nintendo Switch May Feature A Secondary Display

Nintendo’s successor to the current Nintendo Switch is still well beyond the horizon, but that clearly hasn’t stopped rumours and speculations of the device from manifesting online. On that note, a recent discovery has led to speculation that the next Switch could feature not one, but two displays.

The discovery was made by a security vulnerability research by the name of Mike Heskin. Heskin, who was sifting through the Switch’s recent 10.0.0 firmware update, said that the new firmware update also carried preliminary support for a new Switch model. Codenamed “nx-abcd”.

It is from this discovery that Heskin believes that the next Switch device to hit market could very well be sporting a “secondary display of sorts” being added exclusively to the model.

To provide a little insight, the codename is typically used by Nintendo as one of several methods to identify its Switch models; “nx-abca” is a reference to the original Switch, while “nx-abcb” references the Switch Lite. Whether or not the second display will take on the form factor of Nintendo’s original 3DS and or 2DS XL is yet to be seen, but one has to admit that a return to the clamshell design wouldn’t be unwelcome.

In any case, and considering that such a device is still ways off from an actual launch, we do suggest that you take this news with a large grain of salt.
