Movement Control Order To Be Extended Further Until 28 April 2020
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has confirmed that the on-going implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) which took place since 18 March will continue further towards the end of this month. This announcement was made during the special address to the nation just moments ago.
As you might know, MCO was supposed to end on 31 March but it was then extended to 14 April. Through the confirmation today, the new end date for MCO has been set to 28 April 2020.
PM Muhyiddin stated that this decision was made based on the advice made by the Ministry of Health and medical experts. Additionally, it was also done to provide space for our medical personnel to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country and in line with World Health Organization’s view that governments throughout the world should not stop their MCO or quarantine efforts too early.
In his speech, PM Muhyiddin has also revealed that a limited number of economic sectors will be opened by phases in order to lessen the stress on the country’s economy. These sectors will be select by a special committee that will be chaired by under Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, Azmin Ali as well as Senior Defence Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The chosen sectors which will be announced by the government soon will have to operate under strict health and security guideline. As pointed out by PM Muhyiddin, the fight is still on, so please continue to practice good hygiene and stay home as much as possible throughout the MCO period.
