Qualcomm And Google To Develop GPU Driver Update For Snapdragon-Powered Devices

Google has announced that it will be making GPU driver updates for Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets available via Google Play. The announcement was made during the search engine’s Games Developer Summit that kicked off earlier today.

The app would be called the Android GPU Inspector, and will first roll out for a limited list of Android devices. According to Qualcomm, the “graphics profiling tool will support Android-based GPU, including the semiconductor’s own Adreno GPU. And making building and optimising games on the Android ecosystem much easier.

During its development, developers themselves can also suggest driver enhancements to Qualcomm. The company will then compile and release the suggested improvements for its Adreno GPU via the Android GPU Inspector on Google Play.

The Google Pixel 4 will be one of the few devices to receive access to the GPU update.

At the moment, that list comprises the Snapdragon 855-powered Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL, as well as the US-versions of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note10. However, both Google and Qualcomm have assured Android users that more devices will be added to the list as time goes by.
