MCMC Confirms That One Of Its Staff Has Been Tested Positive For COVID-19
In a media statement, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has revealed that one of its employees has been tested positive for COVID-19. The regulator was notified by health authorities yesterday and the employee is now receiving treatment at Hospital Sungai Buloh.
MCMC has also revealed that the employee was already put under 14-day home quarantine since 4 March after it was determined that her husband was in contact with a COVID-19 patient. Detailed contact tracing was then immediately carried out to track those that had direct contact with the employee which then put under home quarantine and medical screening.
The regulator also pointed out that sanitation and cleaning work has been performed on its headquarters on 5 and 6 March alongside the older facility that located across from MCMC’s current main office. This is even though MCMC has stated on 5 March that none of its staff has been tested positive for COVID-19 and the cleaning work was done as preventive measure.
The announcement today has also revealed that MCMC has asked its staff to cancel their travel plans for the time being regardless of domestic or international destinations as well as for business and personal reasons. There is already reimbursement scheme in place to further entice its staff to consider cancelling their travel plans.
Regardless of the steps that have been taken by the regulator in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, MCMC assures everyone that operations at its headquarters and state offices as well as the adjacent facility in Cyberjaya are still as usual. While the Consumer Complaints front desk at its headquarters is still closed, any complaints can still be done through the dedicated online portal or via e-mail.
