Huawei Kirin 820 5G Performs Better Than Kirin 980 And Qualcomm Snapdragon 980
Huawei’s upcoming mid-range chipset is the Kirin 820 5G, which is set to replace last year’s Kirin 810. It’s also expected to be found in a number of upcoming phones, such as the HONOR 30S. Now, the chipset’s benchmark scores have also appeared online.
Based on the Geekbench 4 scores, the Kirin 820 outperforms the Kirin 980 in both single core and multi-core performance. Against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, it is tied for multi-core performance, but inches ahead in single core performance.
The Kirin 820 is reportedly a 7nm chip that makes use of Cortex-A76 CPU cores, as well as a Mali G77 GPU. For now, not much else is known about the chipset. But from the benchmark, one would guess that it boasts a higher clock speed than the other two chipsets it is being compared to. The Mali G77 CPU is also said to have a 120% to 140% boost in performance per mm² compared to the G76.
As mentioned, the HONOR 30S is expected to launch with the Kirin 820. This is rumoured to happen on 30 March. We’ll undoubtedly see more phones with the mid-range chipset after that.
