5G Tech Is Safe, Radiation Protection Commission Confirms
If you’re worried about the safety of using 5G tech, then this is good news. The Guardian reports that the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) say the new mobile network standard is safe. This includes mmWave 5G, the highest-frequency version of the tech.
The commission has recently updated its guidelines for electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure to account for the mmWave 5G tech. This is the first time the guidelines were updated since 1998, when the guidelines were first set.
Dr Eric van Rongen, chairperson of the ICNIRP, said that the new guidelines will “provide protection against all scientifically substantiated adverse health effects due to exposure in the 100kHz to 300 GHz range”.
Beyond the mmWave tech, other 5G bands that fall under the Sub-6 and low-band categories fall under the original set of guidelines. This means that they are safe, without needing any extra precautions.
As is commonly the case with new tech that involves radiation, many question the safety of using 5G. After all, every new standard of mobile networks is followed by the use of higher frequencies. Now, we can rest assured that the tech is safe to use when it eventually becomes available on out shores.
