WhatsApp Achieves 2 Billion User Milestone

Whatsapp announced that it has reached more than 2 billion users worldwide. This milestone has made the popular messaging service the second platform to have reached that number of users. The first being Facebook, the social media network and parent company to WhatsApp itself.

The messaging service previously recorded reaching over 500 million users when Mark Zuckerberg’s company acquired them in 2014. WhatsApp’s user base continued to grow up to 1 billion two years after, and later reaching over 1.5 billion in 2018.

Since then, the service has regularly introduced new features to the basic and business versions of the app in order to provide an enhanced messaging experience. Furthermore, WhatsApp also frequently reinforces its end-to-end message encryption feature and overall security to ensure user privacy and safety.

As stated in their recent blog post, WhatsApp will continue to commit in providing its ever growing number of users a simple, reliable, and private messaging service. “We know that the more we connect, the more we have to protect,” the blog post said.
