Sony Announces Xperia L4; First Xperia Device To Feature Notched Display

Sony has officially announced a new entry-level smartphone, the Xperia L4. The phone marks the first mobile device to be released by the brand since the cancellation of MWC 2020, as well as the first Xperia device to feature a notched display.

Specs-wise, the display measures in at 6.2-inches, has a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a display resolution of 1680 x 720 pixels. Underneath the hood, the phone runs on a MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, has 3GB RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. The phone also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Around the back, the Xperia L4’s main triple-camera module comprises a 13MP wide, 5MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth sensor. Around the front, the phone’s selfie duties are handled by the 8MP camera sensor embedded within the notch. For software, the phone will launch with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, and will be available in two colour options: Blue and Black.

At the time of writing and seeing how the Xperia L4’s promotional video was posted on YouTube via its official Sony Europe channel, it’s likely that the phone will first see distribution in the EU as well as the UK. When Sony intends to launch the phone in our market or if the brand has any intention to do so is a mystery. That said, we’re not holding our breath.
