Four retro titles are headed to Nintendo Switch online. Two NES games and two SNES games will be making their way onto the platform to entertain Switch players.

From the SNES, Pop’n TwinBee and Smash Tennis will be made available on Switch. And from the NES, Shadow of the Ninja and Eliminator Boat Duel will be the new titles for Switch players to enjoy.

Pop’n TwinBee

This is the sixth game from the TwinBee series. It was released in 1993 in Japan and Europe but has never been available in the US, until now.

The game is a scrolling, top-view shooter which can be played solo or with a friend. Player 1 takes control of the titular TwinBee aircraft and player two takes the pink WinBee.

The player shoots at airborne enemies, drops bombs and negotiates obstacles.

Smash Tennis

Simple addictive gameplay is the order of the day on Smash Tennis. Released in Japan in 1993 and Europe in 1994, the game is simple to play but offers a variety of courts, shots and approaches.

Shadow of the Ninja

Shadow of the Ninja, which was released in Europe as Blue Shadow, came out on the NES in 1990. The side-scrolling action game sees players take on the role of a ninja in a futuristic imagining of New York City.

Your ninja runs, jumps and slashes his way past a variety of enemies, including some monkeys, aquatic ninjas and a recurring enemy that looks a lot like Metroid Prime. Who knew futuristic New York would be so dangerous?

Eliminator Boat Duel

1991 title, Eliminator Boat Duel, does what it says on the tin. It’s powerboat racing.

The title has single and multiplayer modes, as well as several difficulty levels. In single player the difficulty level dictates which opponent you race against – Easy is Seasick Sidney, Medium is Aquarius Rex and Expert Mode sees you take on Surfer Bob.

The game swaps between an overhead camera and a closer one behind the boat, which some players may find reminiscent of Outrun.

Drydock sections inbetween races allow players to fix and upgrade their boats to improve performance.
