Nikon D6 Pro DSLR Revealed; Priced At US$6500 For Body Only

The Nikon D6 professional camera was confirmed to be in development back in September of last year. On 12 February 2020, the Japanese camera company has officially unveiled the new DSLR in its full glory, as well as confirming its price and release date.

The D6 is a speed-focused professional camera that packs a 20.8MP FX-Format full-frame CMOS sensor which is powered by Nikon’s Expeed 6 processor. This allows the DSLR to capture 14fps full-resolution burst shooting via optical viewfinder or 10.5fps in live view mode. Alternatively, it is also able to shoot 8MP shots at 30fps or 2MP at 60fps. Additionally, the D6’s ISO ranges from 100 to 102,400, which is expandable of up to 3.2 million if required in order to capture low-light shots.

The Nikon D6 introduces an all-new autofocus system which reduces the number of points from 153 to 105, but making all of them cross-type and selectable. The company claims that this system makes the autofocus coverage 1.6 times “denser”, and promises that the detection area for single points and groups is expanded. Therefore, allowing the D6 to still focus on a subject even if it moves slightly outside of the zone in use.

As for video capture, the camera offers up to 16:9 4K 30p video recordings with focus peaking and MP4 format support. On top of that, the D6 also provides additional modes such as in-camera time-lapse recordings and a new interval timer mode, which helps to retain the best resolution during video capture.

Besides that, the new Nikon pro DSLR offers built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS support, as well as dual XQD or CFExpress card slots. Unlike its predecessor, the Nikon D5, the D6 is the company’s first flagship to not offer support for Compact Flash media.
