Leaked video shows the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip snapping open and closed

While a flurry of leaked info has meant that there’s very few secrets left about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip, what it’s like on paper and how it is in person are two very different things. Now, thanks to a video leak from Ben Geskin on Twitter, we have a small insight into the latter.

While it’s not quite “blink and you’ll miss it”, it is more of a taster than a detailed hands on. Still: we get the important stuff, as the phone is pried open with a thumb under the left-hand side, seen in its very tall open form factor, and then closed again with a satisfying snap.

We also get a good look at the tiny screen on the front of the phone when it’s closed. It’s just big enough to show the time, date and basic battery information – though an earlier leak indicated it’ll also be usable as a tiny viewfinder for the camera, letting you take selfies with the superior main lens.  

That’s all we’re getting from the video, so it’s just as well we have other information from earlier leaks. That tall screen, for example, is apparently a 6.7-inch number with a resolution of 2636 x 1080 and, unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, will have a layer of extra thin glass rather than plastic covering it.

In terms of internal specs, it’s not the absolute latest technology, but it is reported to be streets ahead of its main rival the Motorola Razr. While Motorola’s foldable uses the middling Snapdragon 710 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will have the Snapdragon 855 processor. Not the very latest chip, but the same one that powered last year’s Galaxy S10, which is still plenty fast enough for most people. 

Elsewhere, it’ll have 8GB RAM, 256GB of (non-expandable) storage, and no headphone jack. No word on price yet, but given the Motorola Razr will start an eye-watering £99 per month on EE, Samsung has a good opportunity to undercut. Although given the Galaxy Fold sold for £1900, there’s no guarantee it will, of course…
