Despite mass shortages of the Nintendo Switch, the Switch Lite is cheaper than ever
Across almost all major UK retailers, the portable Nintendo Switch Lite is cheaper than its Black Friday £179 price tag.
Following the haze of Christmas shopping chaos, stock of the Nintendo Switch across the board has been fairly slim pickings with many of the major retailers having out of stock listings. With the outbreak of coronavirus likely to cause further issues with production, we were surprised to find the Nintendo Switch Lite reduced by £30.
Right now at John Lewis, you can nab the Switch Lite in Yellow for just £169 (down from its RRP of £199), plus you’ll also get the retailer’s two-year warranty as standard, handy to have in case of any mishaps.
Launching itself as another addition to Nintendo’s vast array of consoles, the Nintendo Switch Lite is geared as a more portable friendly version of its older sibling, the hybrid Switch. Forgoing the functionality of being able to remove the Joy-Cons, the Switch Lite is smaller and more compact, exclusive to handheld gaming. This allows it to come in at a far cheaper price point and gives gamers the choice of saving money on the more traditional console elements they may not have otherwise even used.
With a smaller blueprint than that of the full-fat Switch, the Switch Lite has dimensions of 1.1 x 208 x 13.9mm in comparison to the original’s 102mm x 239mm x 13.9mm. In terms of the screen itself, the Switch Lite sits at 5.5-inches with resolutions of up to 720p. In terms of definition, this is much the same as the original console, which was only able to bump games up to 1080p when docked, but if we’re being honest, it’s difficult to notice the lower resolution on such a small screen.
Although unable to dock or play in tabletop mode, you still have options in terms of multiplayer games. Other friends with either of the Nintendo Switch consoles can battle it out with you in local play. Alternatively, you can also dabble in a bit of online play, if the mood takes you.
Stock is running out fast with both the grey and turquoise variants out of stock on John Lewis, so if you’re too late to this particular deal then we recommend checking out Amazon and Currys PC World where the consoles have been price matched with this £30 saving.
