The Cyrcle Phone; A Smartphone Featuring A Circular Display And Form Factor

The rectangular shape of phones have been the form factor that we’ve been comfortable with for the longest of time. At CES 2020, a company called Cyrcle is challenging the traditional approach by introducing a circular smartphone for users who are looking for something different in the market.

The prototype that debuted at the event actually isn’t the first from the company. According to CNET, Cyrcle initially introduced a circular phone concept with 2G support back in 2016. The current model features a larger rounded touchscreen 3.45-inch 800×800 pixel display that feels like a modern multi-functional stopwatch or pocket watch in your hands. The device – in its prototype version, to be exact – is running on the Android 9 operating system, which features several apps and games that have been reworked to accommodate the screen’s shape.

Other than that, the Cyrcle phone features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 4.2, Micro-USB and Type-C connectors, dual sim support, and a battery capacity of 2000mAh. Photography-wise, the smartphone sports 13MP cameras on its  front and rear.

Additionally, it also features two 3.5mm headphone jacks which allows users to share and listen to music with a friend. As for the phone’s encasing, Cyrcle is working with different recyclable components for its final design that will include plastic and nylon materials.

The Cyrcle phone will launch its pre-order campaign in the second quarter of 2020. While the finalised version of the phone’s price has not been decided yet, interested buyers can purchase the phone early at a presale price of US$500 (~RM2038).
