MediaTek Debuts Helio G70 SoC For Entry-Level Gaming Smartphones
Built on the same 12nm process as last year’s Helio G90 SoCs, the newly announced MediaTek Helio G70 is a gaming-oriented chipset for entry-level and some mid-range smartphones. Along with its gaming capabilities, the new SoC also packs decent performance for its class and supports high performance cameras for photography and video recording.
The Helio G70 sports two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz and six A55 cores. Graphics-wise, the chip features a Mali-G52 2EEMC2 running at 820Mhz which could support display resolutions up to 1080p and aspect ratios of up to 21:9.
It also features MediaTek’s CorePilot technology which provides consistent performance by managing the CPU and GPU clock speeds. Additionally, the G70 includes an integrated Voice on Wakeup (VoW) capability that minimises power use for voice assistant services. The chip could also support LPDDR4x RAM capacity of up to 8GB.
The Helio G70’s onboard Image Signal Processor (ISP) supports a single 48MP or two 16MP cameras, and features the brand’s NeuroPilot technology for AI assisted enhancements such as object and scene recognition and bokeh effects. Video-wise, the chip is capable of 1080p at 60fps video recordings, and features on-board Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and rolling shutter correction.
As for connectivity, its modem can support dual 4G VoLTE and 300Mbps downlink, but lacks any 5G capabilities. The G70 is equipped with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 for local-based communications.
While the MediaTek Helio G70 SoC is aimed towards entry-level phones, it does provide commendable performance and hardware support. No brands have announced any smartphones equipped with this chipset at this time, but we’ll certainly be expecting them sometime this year.
