John Wick and Deadpool 2 Director David Leitch to Remake KUNG FU
The stunt coordinator/choreographer turned director, David Leitch is one of the most exciting action helmers working in cinema today. The man shocked the world with John Wick in 2014, a sleek and slick action flick unlike anything seen in Hollywood at the time. He then completely upped his game in Atomic Blonde — I mean who can forget the gloriously choreographed and photographed staircase fight? Since then Leitch has also directed Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw.
Now, David Leitch has locked in his next project and to nobody’s surprise, it’s going to be one with a lot of action. He has signed on to helm the remake of the 1972 series Kung Fu which starred David Carradine and ran for three seasons.
Per Deadline:
Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to the 1972 TV series Kung Fu for a contemporary-set action-packed feature film that will be directed by David Leitch.
Interestingly, unlike the series which was set in the 1800s, this feature film will take place in the present. The original series centred around a martial arts expert who ran away from China after the assassination of his master. He wondered the wild wild west helping people and fighting racism, all while a bunch of assassins try to kill him.
Apart from remaking/adapting this series, David Leitch is also currently working on two other projects: A Netflix original Sci-Fi action film, The Division, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, and Undying Love, a vampire action-romance.
