AMD Confirms High-End Radeon Navi Graphics Card Launching This Year

AMD recently confirmed that the launch of its Radeon graphics cards powered by the next generation of its Navi GPU architecture is still on track to launch this year. According to Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, the new Navi GPU will be built around the 7nm+ process and will be powered by its new RDNA 2 architecture.

The existence of the Radeon GPUs were confirmed during a financial earnings call for AMD’s fourth quarter. When asked about what new GPUs AMD planned to launch, Dr. Su reaffirmed callers that these Navi-based graphics cards will be “refreshed” and will have “next-generation RDNA architecture”.

AMD first announced its RDNA architecture and Navi GPU back Computex 2019, along with the official launch of its mid-range Radeon RX 5700 XT. Naturally, rumours regarding a high-end Radeon graphics cards have been floating in the wind. That said, any and all information of a specific release date has been a closely guarded secret. In that time, AMD has released two additional Radeon GPUs, albeit for the entry-level and mid-range market. These GPUs are the Radeon RX 5500 series and the Radeon RX 5600 XT.

Getting back to the main topic, AMD has also indirectly made it clear that its future high-end Navi GPUs will come integrated with hardware that accelerates real-time ray-tracing. Giving NVIDIA and its GeForce RTX series graphics card a run for its money. To be clear, it’s not confirmed if ray-tracing will be available in its 1st generation high-end Navi GPU, but considering that the feature will be present in both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, one can hope that it does.
