Singapore-Only Limited Edition Star Wars Coca-Cola Bottles Feature OLED Lightsabers

As the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is drawing close, its hype buildup is ever increasing with the release of teaser clips, and even Samsung is hopping on the bandwagon with a Star Wars themed Samsung Note 10 Plus. Also joining to celebrate the film’s release are limited edition Coca-Cola bottles that features light-up lightsabers powered by OLED panels.

Released in a choice of two variations featuring either Rey or Kylo Ren, these Star Wars themed Coca-Cola bottles are only produced in a limited run of 8000 units, as part of a “Galactic Hunt” promotion happening exclusively in Singapore. The Galactic Hunt promotion is running between 6 to 22 December and will require fans to solve clues in order to obtain these bottles.

As much as we want to believe that this gimmick is powered by Kyber crystals, instead it uses the same OLED technology as smartphones and TVs. These panels are compressed into paper-thin labels and installed on a flexible surface, which also consist of a built-in printed battery. A printed electronic circuit on the label activates the lightsabers upon touch. Coca-Cola claims that the lightsaber gimmick and its printed battery can sustain a minimum of 500 activations.

Unfortunately, being a Singapore exclusive, these limited edition Coca-Cola bottles might not see the light of day in Malaysia or any other parts of the world. Those who are still keen on picking up a bottle to add to their Star Wars collection will need to head over to Singapore and take part in the Galactic Hunt promotion during the weekends between 6 to 22 December 2019.
