PSA: MCMC Will Be Conducting Phone Surveys From 27 December 2019 To 31 May 2020

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will be conducting two surveys over the coming months. They are called the Hand Phone Users Survey 2019 and the E-Commerce Consumers  Survey 2019. The announcement for the two surveys was made via Twitter, by the MCMC’s official account.

According to the tweet, the survey will be conducted starting tomorrow, 27 December 2019. And it will be ongoing  all the way until 31 May 2020. The survey will be conducted over the phone, and the MCMC has provided a list of phone numbers that it will be using to conduct the survey. It’s quite the long list of numbers, and they’re all from the MCMC CATI Centre in Cyberjaya.

These calls can come on any day, so long as it’s not a national public holiday, or a Selangor public holiday. That said, the MCMC will only be calling between the hours of 9AM and 6PM. Participation is on a voluntary basis, so you’re free to say no if you don’t want to take part. Also, the MCMC stresses that the surveys are strictly for data collection, and no sales will be solicited during these calls, nor will money be collected.

For what it’s worth, it’s nice of the MCMC to announce the phone numbers it will use for the survey. After all, many phishing calls and robocalls these days sound like official ones. With this, at least we know a real call is coming, and we have ways to identify them.
