Marvel Shutting Down TV Division to Focus on Disney Plus

Marvel’s small screen division, which produced series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, The Runaways and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is currently in the process of getting shut down, Variety reports. This frankly doesn’t come as a surprise given Kevin Feige’s promotion as Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Studios and his plans to build and expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen by making Disney Plus shows that directly tie into the films. Many of those shows like Hawkeye and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier are currently in their pre-production stages.

As far as Jeph Loeb’s Marvel TV goes, there will no longer be new shows developed. However, five shows currently in production for Hulu will continue forward with their planned seasons, though the circumstances surrounding some of those shows are extremely messy.

These shows are the live-action Helstrom and the animated Howard the Duck, Hit Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler and M.O.D.O.K. The four animated shows are expected to crossover in a big The Offenders event series. Unfortunately, it was reported last week that the showrunner and writing staff of Tigra & Dazzler had exited the show due to creative differences.

Two relatively popular Marvel TV shows that are currently in the midst of airing seasons — The Runaways and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D — will conclude their series runs at the end of this season. They will not be renewed for another any further.

All of this comes at the heels of the seemingly out-of-nowhere cancellations of the Netflix Marvel shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher.
