FINAS Wants Government To Regulate Contents From Netflix and Other Digital Platforms
The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) is urging the government to regulate contents that were shown through digital platforms such as Netflix. The remark was apparently made by its CEO, Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri.
According to multiple reports, Ahmad Idham apparently has stated that the government should enact a law to address the issue as content shown by Netflix and similar platforms were usually uncensored. He pointed out that such contents could be harmful to children and youth if left unmonitored.
Additionally, the CEO who is also a well-known actor, director, and producer, has apparently claimed that these international digital contents are not being scrutinized, as opposed to locally produced contents. He also further claimed that a large portion of the public is calling for the censorship as well.
At the same time, Ahmad Idham has also revealed that FINAS has raised this issue to the Film Censorship Board. Not only that, the organization is also planning to hold reach out programs to rope in non-governmental organizations to further help highlight the issue to the authorities.
It is still early to see how everyone is going to react to the statement made by Ahmad Idham but nevertheless, we expect that it will lead to a number of interesting conversations from all sides of the field.
