Blizzard Announces Diablo 4 At BlizzCon 2019; Release A Long Ways Off

Blizzard has finally announced Diablo 4, during the opening ceremonies of BlizzCon 2019. As part of the announcement, the company also put out a nine-minute long cinematic trailer for the game.

The company said that this new entry into the Diablo series will return to the franchise’s “darker roots”. Not sure exactly what that means, but hopefully the game will be as dark and bloody as the trailer.

There is also a three-minute long gameplay trailer, which shows three classes. They are the barbarian, sorceress, and druid. Blizzard says that there are five in total, but has not released details on the other two just yet. The game will also be always online, which hopefully does not bring back the connectivity issues of Diablo 3.

During last year’s BlizzCon, Blizzard announced Diablo Immortal – a mobile game – instead, to the ire of many fans. Diablo 4 is the sequel that most fans of the series have been waiting for.

That said, director Luis Barriga said that the game is “not coming soon. Not even ‘Blizzard soon’.” And when the company itself acknowledges its own unreliable use of the word, it’s the clearest indication that you shouldn’t hold your breath for it.
