Avengers: Endgame – Disney Pushes Brie Larson, RDJ For Oscar Nom

Disney began their Oscar campaign about a month ago and unsurprisingly, Avengers: Endgame is being championed in multiple different categories. What came as a surprise, though, was the lack of a push for Robert Downey Jr in an acting category. It was later reported that Robert Downey Jr. himself chose not to campaign for a Best Actor Oscar. He said: “there was some talk about it, and I said ‘let’s not.’” Still, it felt a little odd considering multiple parties including Avengers: Endgame directors, the Russo Brothers claimed earlier this year that they genuinely believe RDJ deserves an Oscar nomination for his fantastic work in the film.

However, it looks like Disney has changed its mind. The House of Mouse has updated its For Your Consideration campaign list to include Robert Downey Jr for Best Supporting Actor. Not only that, Disney has also submitted a bunch of other names of Avengers: Endgame actors to be considered for an Oscar nom.

Best Supporting Actor:

  • Robert Downey Jr.
  • Chris Evans
  • Mark Ruffalo
  • Chris Hemsworth
  • Jeremy Renner
  • Josh Brolin
  • Paul Rudd
  • Don Cheadle

Best Supporting Actress:

  • Scarlett Johansson
  • Gwyneth Paltrow
  • Zoe Saldana
  • Karen Gillan
  • Brie Larson

Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU

Keep in mind, though, that some of these names are not to be taken too seriously. Sometimes studios just “push” certain talents just to be diplomatic to all parties and agents involved. There’s literally zero chance that Paul Rudd, Zoe Saldana and Brie Larson get an Oscar nod, not because they’re not talented but because they hardly had much to do in Avengers: Endgame. This is especially true for Larson, who only appeared in the beginning and right at the end where she kicked some serious ass. The only three people who have a realistic chance of getting a nod from The Academy are Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson. Even so, I’d say the chances are low for the latter two.

Apart from the acting categories above, Disney is also pushing Avengers: Endgame in the following areas:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Director – Anthony Russo and Joe Russo
  • Best Adapted Screenplay – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely
  • Best Cinematography – Trent Opaloch
  • Best Original Score – Alan Silvestri
  • Best Film Editing – Jeffrey Ford and Matthew Schmidt
  • Best Production Design – Charles Wood
  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Makeup and Hairstyling
  • Best Sound Mixing
  • Best Sound Editing
  • Best Visual Effects
