8Chan Returns As 8Kun; Will Now Pull Content Illegal In The US

Following Cloudflare’s cutting ties with it, the anonymous online forum seems to have went away. It’s now back, but with a new name, but most importantly, a new rule as well. Called 8kun, it will now not accept content that’s illegal in the US.

Specifically, it reads on the site that reads “any content that violates the laws of the United States of America will be deleted and the poster will be banned”. This would appear to be a very neccesary step, considering the fact that 8chan was associated with at least two mass shootings.

Beyond that, it looks like 8kun will be the same as what 8chan was before, where visitors are free to express basically anything they fancy. The site administrators has red ceived over 200 board migration requests. They also have most of its former top 25 subforums moved to the new site.

The Verge reports that 8chan’s owner Jim Watkins previously said the site went offline voluntarity. He also said that it “may” return when tools to counter illegal content have been developed. The fact that 8kun has made its appearance suggests that the goal has been achieved. But it remains to be seen if this is really the case.
