Sony Files Trademarks For PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, And PS10 Names In Japan
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) recently filed trademarks for names bearing its console’s “PS” moniker. Specifically, those names are the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10.
This marks the first time that Sony has tried to secure trademarks ahead of unreleased PlayStation generations. Prior to this, Sony trademarked the upcoming PlayStation 5 (PS5) back in 2006, the same year the PS4 name was trademarked as well.
On another note, Sony only trademarked the PS2 and PS3 names for its respective consoles a year before they were released. Even the PS1, which first released back in 1994, only received its trademark six years later in 2000.
Sony’s initiative in trademarking the abbreviation of its PlayStation brand is a sign that the company may not change its naming scheme for a further five generations. Well, six, if you count the PS5 console that is due to launch during the holiday season of 2020 next year.
