Riot Games Announces League Of Legends: Wild Rift For Consoles And Mobile
Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends (LoL), officially announced that it was bringing its wildly popular MOBA to both the mobile and console ecosystem. The new version of the game is officially known as League of Legends: Wild Rift, and was announced in conjunction with LoL’s 10th anniversary.
In Riot Games’ YouTube video, the game developer announced that Wild Rift will be similar to the PC version, but will have some of its gameplay mechanics tweaked to accommodate versatility on the two platforms. Specifically, Riot added the familiar touch stick for your “Champions” control and side buttons for casting skills.
Wild Rift matches will also run shorter compared to the original LoL on PC, ranging from 15 to 20 minutes. Further, the game will sport a new map other than the iconic Summoner’s Rift map. On that note, it should be noted that Wild Rift is not a direct port of LoL on PC. Rather, Riot Games have simply built the game from scratch for both mobile devices and game consoles.
Additionally, you can find the original LoL Champions in Wild Rift. As the video suggests, popular Champions like Annie, Janna and Master Yi will be available in the game. Currently, it is not known if every champion will be available upon launch.
League of Legends: Wild Rift is slated for a 2020 release. Pre-registration on Google Play is already open, while pre-registration on the iOS will commence starting tomorrow. There’s still no word when the console version will be available.
Riot Games’ decision to bring its bread-winning title to the mobile ecosystem can be viewed as a widely growing trend. Prior to Wild Rift, other PC titles such PUBG, Fortnite and the most recent Call of Duty have already been ported to mobile, the latter being the most recent title.
