Pixelbook 2 price, release date, specs and rumours: What you need to know

Google’s yearly October launch event is fast approaching and while all the news seems to be about its hotly anticipated new iPhone 11 rival, the Pixel 4, we’re expecting a few other tech goodies to make an appearance, including a new Pixelbook 2.

For those that missed it, the Pixelbook 2 is the hotly anticipated new flagship Chromebook from Google. Unlike the older Pixel Slate, which is a Surface Pro 7-style convertible, it’s expected to feature a traditional laptop design, like the gen’ one Pixelbook.

Sound exciting? We think so, but with the laptop market in the state of flux with AMD and Intel having both unveiled new CPU families and Nvidia releasing more new GPUs than you can shake a stick at, knowing what to expect from the new Pixelbook 2 can be a little tricky.

Here to help we’ve created a definitive guide breaking down all the latest news and rumours about Google’s fabled next flagship Chromebook.

Google Pixelbook 2 release date: When is the Pixelbook 2 out?

Google hasn’t unveiled the Pixelbook 2 yet. It’s expected to make its debut alongside the Google 4, Pixel 4 XL and Pixelbuds 2 at an event on the 15th of October.

Google Pixelbook 2 price: How much will the Pixelbook 2 cost?

We currently don’t have any official pricing for the Google Pixelbook 2. It’ll also likely be available with various CPU, RAM and storage options. The exact price will likely depend on which configuration you opt for. Don’t expect it to be cheap though, the original Pixelbook’s base model retailed for £1000 when it first came out.

Google Pixelbook 2 specs and features: How powerful is the Pixelbook 2?

We haven’t seen any reliable rumours around the Pixelbook 2’s exact specifications. The only semi-credible rumour we’ve seen arrived in August when code in a Chrome OS update appeared to suggest Google plans to add a face unlock feature to its operating system in the near future.

Outside of this, all we can do is speculate. If it targets the same premium market as the original Pixelbook, the Pixelbook 2 will likely have FHD and 4K touchscreen options and a choice of the latest Intel 10th Gen i5 and i7 laptop chips. We’d also expect an array of memory and SSD storage options.

The bigger question is if the Pixelbook 2 will feature and AMD Ryzen CPU option. Microsoft surprised the world at its Surface launch event in September where it revealed its latest Surface Laptop 3 will have a custom AMD CPU option. It be cool if Google did the same.
