Microsoft May Have Foldable Devices With Liquid Or Gas In Its Hinge

Microsoft was recently granted a patent for a foldable device. It won’t necessarily end up being a phone, which is all the rage as far as foldable devices go these days. That said, the device described in the patent is rather special.

This is because the device will have either liquid or gas on the hinge. This is to reduce the wear and tear caused by the constant folding and unfolding that the device will experience. It will also serve a secondary function of preventing the entry of external substances.

The patent appears to have been filed by Microsoft’s technology licensing team. According to Engadget, this means that the patented tech isn’t necessarily reserved for a specific device. The device that comes with it may not even be made by the company. It may instead license it to other hardware makers instead.

If Microsoft comes up with its own foldable device, it’s unlikely to show up very soon, considering when this patent was granted. That said, with the upcoming launch rumoured to feature a deal screen device, it’s possible that it will actually happen, unlikely as it is.
