Astro customer data and personal details leaked yet again
We’ll if you, just like the rest of us here are asking – wasn’t this last years news, well it isn’t. We have just confirmed that Astro’s customer data and customer personal details have been breached yet again.
A notice has been posted up on Astro’s site confirming that its customers’ MyKad data such as name, NRIC number, date of birth, gender, race and address are affected in this latest breach.
According to the notice, only 0.2% of Astro customers are affected, and no financial data was disclosed. Astro also claims, via the notice that they have addressed the incident immediately and stopped the unauthorized access.
We have reached out to Astro for further details of the breach, but have been told that they will not be able to comment on the incident but are working with the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and PDPA Commissioner to address the issues.
Last year, we reported Astro’s IPTV Customer Database was put up for sale online affecting personal details of over 60,000 of its customers.
We’re not entirely sure at the moment on who the ‘affected customers’ are, but if you somehow think you’re affected, you may contact Astro at pdpo@astro.com.my or wecare@astro.com.my.
