Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 215 SoC; First In Series With 64-Bit CPU And Dual ISP
Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 215, its latest chipset for its 200 series SoCs. The new SoC is the latest member of the semiconductor maker’s entry-level lineup and comes packed with some of the company’s latest technology.
To start, the Snapdragon 215 features a 64-bit quad-core CPU, with each core being an ARM Cortex-A53. On paper, the processor cores allow the new chipset to deliver 50% more CPU performance over its predecessor. It’s also got a more powerful and efficient Adreno 308 GPU, and more importantly, it also carries support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge fast-charging technology.
Still on the subject of power delivery, the Snapdragon 215 also comes integrated with Qualcomm’s Hexagon DSP, which enables smartphones using this chipset continuous music playback. For more than five days.
The Snapdragon 215 also boasts an integrated Snapdragon X5 modem, with support for dual VoLTE and LTE Cat4. Allowing for faster data rates and download speeds as fast as 150Mbps. Camera-wise, the new chipset supports dual ISP; in other words, it is capable of supporting smartphones with main cameras with dual sensor arrays. Up to 13MP in resolution.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 is expected to begin appearing in entry-level smartphones sometime during the second half of this year.
