Mozilla Firefox To Have A Paid Subscription Service In October

Mozilla plans to offer a subscription service inside of its Firefox browser starting October. According to a t3n interview with CEO Chris Beard, among the possible paid features will include VPN and cloud storage.

For now, it looks like the exact details of the paid service has not been fully fleshed out. It’s still unclear if there will be only one subscription service encompassing all the premium features, or of each feature will be a separate subscription.

The company’s reason for making this move is so that it has another source of income. In the interview, Beard states that about 90% of Mozilla’s income comes from search companies that pay to be featured on Firefox.

All that said, the premium subscription will not affect any features that is already available for free on Mozilla Firefox. In a statement to The Verge, Dave Camp, Senior Vice President of Firefox, said that the browser will continue to be free and private by default.
