AMD Introduces Radeon Pro Vega II with The Debut of The New Apple Mac Pro

Some out there believe that AMD’s current lineup of Radeon graphics cards didn’t share the same level of success as per its Ryzen processors. Despite that, Radeon graphics solutions are actually quite popular among some of the biggest consumer tech companies out there including Apple who has chosen to equip its newly announced Mac Pro with them.

In fact, the new Mac Pro also serve as the debut platform for the new workstation-class Radeon Pro Vega II. Utilizing the same Vega 20 chip as per Radeon VII graphics card, it goes come with more firepower as compared to its consumer-oriented cousin though.

Built using 7nm process technology, the Radeon Pro Vega II carries 4096 stream processors through its 64 compute units. With peak clock speed of 1.7GHz and the ability to deliver up to 14.2 TFLOPS of FP32 performance as well as 28 TFLOPS of FP16 performance, the new graphics solution also comes with 32GB HBM2 memory on a 4,096-bit memory bus and 1TB/s memory bandwidth.

Also available for the new Mac Pro is Radeon Pro Vega II Duo which carries two GPUs and 64GB HBM2 memory instead. Even though it still has the same peak clock speed of 1.7GHz, this particular solution offers even more firepower with the help of its 128 compute units that are equivalent to 8192 stream processor together with 28.3 FP32 TFLOPS of performance.

Since both the single and dual GPU variant of Radeon Pro Vega II are using the proprietary MPX Module, these graphics solutions are only available exclusively for the new Mac Pro for the time being.
