Transport Minister: Go-Jek Is Interested To Enter Malaysia

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has recently stated in an interview that the Indonesian ride-hailing company, Go-Jek has expressed its interest to enter Malaysia. In fact, the minister has also pointed out that the company might already in the process of establishing its Malaysian office.

Go-Jek originally begins its life in 2010 as a motorcycle ride-hailing service before adding car haling, food delivery, digital wallet, prepaid reload, on-demand professional service, and many more. Additionally, the company has also expanded to Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and The Philippines.

This is not the first time that we heard of Go-Jek interest to include Malaysia in its ambitious expansion plan. Back in January, the company’s co-founder Kevin Aluwai has apparently revealed Go-Jek is contemplating to set up its operation in our market but didn’t make any formal decision at that time.

While we still have to wait for the official announcement (if there’s any) from Go-Jek regarding this matter, we certainly looking forward to having another potential market disruptor in Malaysia. However, Go-Jek needs to be aggressive if they are planning to break Grab’s tight grip on Malaysia or else, they would end up playing second fiddle just like the rest of e-hailing companies in our market.
