Perak To Ban Telecommunications Transmission Towers On Buildings

Perak state government will no longer allow the installation of telecommunications transmission towers on buildings very soon. This was revealed by the state’s Chairman of Communications, Multimedia, NGO, and Information Committee, Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Muniam.

According to a report by Bernama, the reason behind this ban is to curb the practice of illegal transmission tower installations throughout the state. If you are wondering how such illegal activity could take place given the sheer size of transmission towers, it happens to be a real problem in Perak which has caused millions of Ringgits in lost revenue for the state government.

While the report didn’t mention any specific timeline, Hasnul has apparently stated that the Perak state government will be requesting telco companies to construct their tower on the ground starting immediately. For now, we are not sure how the new policy will affect telco coverage in Perak moving forward though.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean telcos and tower companies can sit on their laurels though. This is because not only that they have to continue maintaining and expanding 4G coverage in Perak, but they also have to get ready for the upcoming 5G technology as well which requires even more base stations.
