Microsoft And Sony Partner Up For Cloud Gaming And AI
Sony and Microsoft have been rivals in the console gaming space ever since the latter announced the original Xbox. But now, it looks like the two of them will be working together in certain aspects. Specifically, the two will be partnering in the cloud gaming and AI fields.
On cloud gaming, Sony will be using Microsoft’s Azure datacenter-based cloud services. Both companies will also be working together to build better development platforms for content creators. As for AI, Sony will be sharing its image sensors to be integrated into Microsoft’s Azure AI tech.
But what does this mean for gamers? Engadget speculates that this may lead to the fixing of slow download speeds suffered by the PS4 somewhere down the line. Also, the agreement between the two companies will mean that Sony will be more accepting to the prospect of cross-platform play, at least between consoles by the two companies.
With that said, there’s no telling when any of these will have an observable effect on the consumer end. Microsoft’s press release states that the two companies will share more information when available.
