Google Adds Cash As Payment Option For Play Store Purchases

If you often make purchases from the Google Play Store, then you’ll know that there are a fair number of options available to you. Unfortunately, cash has never been one of them, but that might just change pretty soon.

During this year’s Google I/O, the search engine announced the Pending Transactions feature for the Play Store. This feature works with you requesting a payment code when you’ve decided to buy something. Then, you head on to a nearby store, present the code and complete the transaction with cash.

You’ll get your purchase, and an email receipt within 10 minutes. Rather, you’re supposed to, since the fine print says the process can take up to 48 hours, according to TechCrunch. And if you ask for a refund, you’ll be getting them in the form of Play Store credits instead.

Pending Transactions is currently live in Japan and Mexico, and only for paid apps. The feature will be enabled for microtransactions at a later date, but there’s no indication as to when that is. The timeline for the feature to make its way to other markets is still not known as of yet.
