foodora partners with LCBO to deliver alcohol in Ottawa
Food-delivery app foodora is partnering with The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to begin door-to-door, same-day alcohol delivery in Ottawa.
The company said in a press release that the partnership will now offer its customers “more convenience at their fingertips and a responsible delivery option.”
“Canadians are steadily becoming mobile-first consumers who are searching for ways to be more efficient, and foodora is a piece of this evolution,” David Albert, managing director of foodora Canada, said in the release. “Our first-of-its-kind partnership with the LCBO means we’re enhancing the overall foodora experience, offering greater convenience and increased accessibility for our new and existing foodora customers.”
Users of the app will be able to look at the LCBO “menu,” which will contain a “curated list” of wine, beer, cider, coolers and liquor, on foodora’s website or its app. Foodora is available on both iOS and Android devices.
The company says customers can expect a 35-minute delivery window after placing an order, and as of now three stores in Ottawa will be participating (275 Rideau St., 222 Richmond Rd. and 22 Isabella St.).
George Soleas, CEO of LCBO, said the company was committed to helping customers shop conveniently.
“This pilot speaks directly to the LCBO’s mission to responsibly deliver more access, convenience and choice to our customers. We are confident it will be met with great success and look forward to future expansion,” he said.
The app launched alcohol delivery in Vancouver in 2018 and the release noted future plans may include grocery and pharmacy delivery.
It’s also important to note that foodora will utilize drivers that are 19 years and older, and will ask customers for IDs when delivering alcohol.
The service is available for delivery from Monday to Sunday 10am to 10pm with a $4 flat delivery fee.
