Minister: Courier and Postal Industry Could Adopt Drones Within The Next 5 Years
The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo earlier today has stated that the commercial usage of drones could take place within the local courier and postal industry in the next 5 years. The remark was made during his speed at the final stage of Parcel Drone Competition 2019 which was organized by Pos Malaysia in collaboration with Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission.
This can be achieved, if there are a good plan and strategy for the implementation, according to the minister. In his speech, he used Swiss Post as an example as the organization currently has an active drone project as part of its early Label program.
Drones that are involved in the project are used to transport laboratory samples between the University of Zurich and University Hospital Zurich. Swiss Post also utilized them at few more selected locations in Lugano and Berne.
The minister also believed that the competition by Pos Malaysia is a proper avenue to explore the drone technology while giving birth to more local innovators within the drone industry. He further stated that the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will continue to support Pos Malaysia and MCMC’s effort to elevate the country’s ability in the parcel drone delivery segment.
