EA To “Impact” About 350 Jobs Due To Organisational Changes

Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that it has gone through a restructuring phase, affecting about 350 staff. This comes about a month after Activision Blizzard’s high-profile layoffs that saw nearly 800 employees getting the pink slip.

Specifically, EA’s announcement details changes to its marketing and publishing organisation, as well as operations teams. The company is also looking to downsize its presence in Japan and Russia. As a result, about 350 of its 9000-strong workforce will be impacted.

The word “impact” in the statement could mean anything, really. That said, the part of the stating saying EA will “help them through this period to find their next opportunity”, implies that the 350 employees are indeed being let go from the company.

This comes after a series of layoffs that the video game industry is going through. Besides Activision Blizzard, ArenaNet and GOG have also retrenched staff due to financial reasons. Hopefully, we don’t hear in the near future about EA regretting the decision the way Activision Blizzard lamented post-execution.
